It’s the second Sunday of May and we all know what that means: Mother’s Day. The one day a year when mother’s come close to receiving the respect, adoration, and thanks that they so deserve. This Mother’s Day, however, is special; Donald Trump is the President and “nobody that has more respect for women than [he does].” So let’s take some time to remember all the different ways that he’s honored not just mother’s, but all women, over the course of his life.
While he was the owner of the Miss Universe pageant he said of a winner, “She gained a massive amount of weight, and it was a real problem,” and “this is someone who likes to eat.”
In an interview, he was asked how to keep a girlfriend and his response was, “you have to treat ‘em like shit.”
Trump is clearly a fan of Twitter and also a fan of bashing women, so what better thing to do than combine the two? He tweeted about Hillary Clinton, the former first lady, senator, and Secretary of State, who is a hero to many Americans, “If Hillary Clinton can’t satisfy her husband what makes her think she can satisfy America?”
Even other Republicans do not escape his misogyny. When talking about Carly Fiorina, a respected former CEO of a Fortune 500 company, “Look at that face, would anyone vote for that?”
Perhaps most infamously of all, the Billy Bush tape. “I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it, you can do anything … grab them by the pussy.” That is the current President of the United States of America, an office held some of the most dignified men in American history, saying that he likes to grab women’s genitals without asking—which is sexual assault.
There are many more comments like this, probably many that are worse that we don’t know about yet, but if it took an entire career to say them, then it would definitely take an entire career to write them all down.
So to all the women who feel like they don’t get the respect that they deserve, you don’t. This “man” is your President, he is my President. This lewd, disgusting, crude, inarticulate, sexist is the most powerful man in the world right now and we willingly put him there. All of these comments were made and known about before the election, but he still won. He won with 42% of the woman vote, nearly half. Maybe next time we shouldn’t all vote for a man who clearly has no respect for half the population and avoid this considerable level of irony on Mother’s Day. One down, three (or, given the direction of his investigations, maybe less) to go.
