Judith Stough is a retired educator living in the Shenandoah Valley on an old farm she and her husband bought in 1996. She has a B.A. In English from the College of William and Mary, M.Ed. From Loyola College and a Ph.D. From the University of Maryland. She held a number of jobs during her professional career: Resource teacher for children with learning disabilities, Educational diagnostician, Self employed - testing and tutoring business, State government education consultant, Executive director of non-profit advocacy organization, Adjunct college professor and Instructor for James Madison University Lifelong Learning program. Her current interests include travel, cooking, family history and a burning ambition to write an historical novel.

The recent Supreme Court decision regarding the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act brought back memories of an experience I had in 2008. That July I volunteered for a Rural America Medical (RAM) event in Wise County, Virginia. RAM is an event organized by Stan Brock, a former television host of a nature program and a world adventurer. These events provide free medical, dental and vision services for attendees. Hundreds of doctors, dentists and optometrists perform their services free of charge over the course of three days.

Barbarians inside the gates

We are barbarians. I can't take credit for saying that, although I completely agree. My friend did that, just after I posted this video on my Facebook page: I was all set to write about how Charles Ramsey isn't a hero. But this, this makes me realize that I was wrong about that. Heritage Inaction

For some reason, a letter from the lobbying arm of the Heritage Foundation was characterized as having been received by NBC News, as if it were some sort of privileged communication.
