I was awakened this morning by my girlfriend rummaging around in the bed, searching for her lost tooth guard. It finally turned up underneath my pillow. “How did it get there?” she asked.

Of course I knew immediately, it must be the Toothguard Fairy! How exciting that this benevolent figure from my childhood had returned to celebrate the changes of middle age with us!

I have such wonderful memories of going to sleep with a lost tooth under my pillow and waking up to a quarter. Why not mark the milestones of aging with the same magic and mystery?

The Power of Music in a Discordant World

When I sat in that old church built in the Gothic style surrounded by the music that the organist was playing, I was thankful to be in such a peaceful setting, far away in body and spirit from the violence that holds so many lives hostage in this world of cruelty and tumult. Summer Sensations

Last Thursday, just before I took my daily two-mile run/walk hunger struck. A few bites of watermelon did the trick. When I bit into that cold sweet watermelon a flood of summer memories rushed in. I recalled the great tastes of summer and with those memories came warm images of youth in the Georgia countryside. My beloved colleagues in Teh Media sure get on my last damn nerve. Most of the time it's just from sloppy work or jumping on whatever bandwagon is rolling by at the time, something along the lines of a pet peeve. Like when my Twitter list of political reporters blows up with some hashtag meme instead of actual reporting. Today it's #Obamacareinthreewords, launched by that icon of credibility, Rep.
