Awesome piece for Tracy Downer. I too took the buyout Summer 2008 after 11 years in auto advertising. Thanks Jeff!
Several years ago I read a review of Alan Wolfe’s “The Future of Liberalism.” Here is his definition of what it means to be a liberal and why I personally subscribe to this philosophical way of seeing the world:
“To be a liberal is to be optimistic about human purpose and potential, open to new ideas and strongly in favor of individual choice. Liberals are inclined to include rather than to exclude, to accept rather than to censor, to respect rather than to stigmatize, to welcome rather than reject.” Other tenants Wolfe subscribes to liberals are, “…that they see enormous social costs in inequality and value means over ends, procedure over passion, constitutional legitimacy over executive privilege.”

I was getting the daily updates, but they stopped. When I went to the Subscribe link, the captcha didn’t display and when I clicked on subscribe Now, I got a 404 error.
Hate you had a problem and you are now subscribed. We no longer send our Dewsletter each day because we thought we were annoying everyone on those days when there was just one new story. Now we send them a couple of times a week once there are three or more new stories.
Subscribers are automatically removed only if our Dewsletter bounces three times. Currently, BellSouth hates us (it is mutual and I suspect is the cause -- if you have a BellSouth address book, would you be so kind as to add firstname.lastname@example.org in your list?). So do HotMail and Live even though we are fully compliant with CAN-SPAM and have attempted to implement all of the security stuff required, which costs hundreds of dollars for security certificates.
It will be a few days before we send another and I’ll check carefully to see if you bounce. I’ll also attempt to fix the subscription problem. Any chance the experience you described happened last week? (I have attempted a fix since then and have tested it a few times.)
Thank you for letting me know. We have thousands of pages and it takes a lot of eyes.
The subscription problem I had was this morning.

What browser were you using? I just looked at Mac Safari, Torch and Maxthon -- are missing captcha. Firefox and Chrome and all the mobile browsers work fine. Haven’t yet started looking in the Windows world.
Chrome on Win 8.1. The catcha is there now. It wasn’t this morning.
