Distinguished gentleman
Watch CNN one night. Or just read the legislative minutes from any body of government. If you are in the South you will hear the distinguished gentleman take his position in front of his podium and microphone and proclaim (in my best southern man drawl), “I would like to thank Ms. Beam’s 3rd grade class for their visit today.” Or, “May the floor please recognize the birth and death of Mr. James Albert Stanley and his distinguished pursuits in WWII.” Or, “It is my honor today to say Happy Birthday to a Mrs. Hattie Grey. I would like to acknowledge this day as Hattie Grey Day.” All the others of course “Ayy.” They are supposed to. I am always wishing for that lone congressperson that will say, “What are we wasting the peoples’ time on this rubbish for?” I suppose Jimmy Stewart was just a dream in a movie though.
You do realize that any legislative body is not kindergarten? Nope. They are paid. Paid with perks. Perks you and I do not have. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of SC. They have Federal Blue Cross Blue Shield. You would throw things at the television whilst it were on CNN if you knew the difference between those plans.
But this blog is not about healthcare. Nope. It is about these people we have elected that get sucked into the abyss (very lucrative abyss) of government. We have legislators like Bob Inglis that run a campaign on term limits. Then when they get a taste of PAC money, term limits mean nothing. We voted for that man again!!!! We denounced Clinton for a blow job and let Inglis get away with promising term limits?!?! We have people advocating legislation to simply make our food supply safe and for some reason that is a conundrum to our legislators. Why would making our food supply safe be a conundrum? How hard is that? Yep, I want safe food. And I do gamble and would on this issue — we all want safety. The food industry doesn’t. Costs too much. Food industry has little men that give perks to the legislators. So think about any issue you have strong feelings about. Whatever it is. Healthcare, homeland safety. food safety, infrastructure, etc. and you will find that the hindrance to it all is fat cats and lobbyists. Most problems could be solved by eradicating lobbyists or limiting the terms of our legislators. But of course if we did that Ms. Hattie Grey would not get her special birthday wish next year.

Juli we do share that view. Every time I see a Senator or House Rep reelected I think of the saying “It is a fool who expects a different outcome using the same input. Obama and the Dems didn’t hijack our gov’t, the special interest did.

Like most folks I hate the idea of lobbyists buying into our government for favors or one-sided legislation (btw, there are more of them now than with Bush). But it has occurred to me lately that at least they are utilitzing the political process. Maybe the first sign of a new Dark Age will be when these corporations and organizations feel they are so powerful they no longer need to influence the government, fire the lobbyists, and simply run things as they see fit.
